Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly converted a modern concept an essential
part of our day-to-day life. The paper provides an outline of the usage of AI tools
for academic activities among final year undergraduate students of social
sciences. The objectives were to identify the frequency of AI tools usage for
academic activities, to identify the types of AI tools commonly used for academic
activities and to find out the purposes of using AI tools for academic activities.
This study adopted a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative
and qualitative data. A structured survey was conducted to 100 final year
undergraduate students. The survey includes both closed and open-ended
questions. Collected data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel. A sample of 100
students were selected using convenience sampling. The study found that the
most frequently used AI tools are ChatGPT (95%), Grammarly (84%) and Quil
Bot (79%), etc. Students use AI tools for checking grammar (55%), for increasing
subject knowledge (67%), for summarizing content (20%), for preparing
examinations (30%), for writing assignments (40%), for preparing
presentations (20%) and for paraphrasing content (20%). Based on these
findings, the study recommends enhancing programs for digital literacy,
promoting awareness of ethical practices in advanced AI tools and providing
specialized training on AI tools for research.
