Abstract:
This study is aimed to find out how the employability related factors associated with
job placement (employment status) of Bachelor of commerce graduates from the
Faculty of commerce and management in Eastern University, Sri Lanka' The study is
conducted in Eastern University, Sri Lank a and to evaluate and identify the most
influential factors affecting employability. The unemployment rate among the Sri
Lankan graduates are high when compare with other developing countries and it has
been reported that 34,316. The existing literature showed the factors affecting the
employability of graduates. These findings were not clearly identifying the factors
influencing for employability of graduates under the Sri Lankan context. Therefore, in
this study primarily designed to understand the employability in Eastern University, Sri
Lanka.
There are eleven determinants namely, gender, OGPA, computer and internet skills,
problem-solving ability, time management, teamwork ability, communication skills'
English language skills, interpersonal skills, internship training, and employability
(Employment status). Graduate employability is examined using survey method;
primary data were collected from a sample of I73 Bachelor of Commerce graduates
from Eastern University Sri Lanka. it analyzed using univariate analysis and binomial
logistic test. Overall, and the findings in this study are supported by other studies in
literatures.
The results showed that there is a high level of the basis of the degree program for
employability, application of competencies in current work, development of
competencies in university, and the basis of internship for employability. And
according to binomial logistic analysis, the result shows that there is an impact on
academic performance, soft skills, and internship training' It is recommended that
sustainable employment of graduates can be secured if the University improves its
current curriculum to incorporate more employability skills demanded by the labor
market
