THE FACTORS AFFECTING ADAPTATION OF CLOUD COMPUTING BY THE UNDERGRADUATES AND LECTURERS OF EASTERN UMVERSITY, SRI LANKA

Abstract

Cloud computing technology used in university's education is rapidly expanding and becoming a more integral part of the collegiate experience. So, the main purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the adaptation of cloud computing by the undergraduates and lecturers of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka. The study variables are perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, cloud computing awareness, perceived risk or security, computer self-efficacy, and e-skills. The first and second objectives of the study is to find out the level of study variables among the undergraduates and lecturers and third objectives of the study is to find out the relationship between study variables and fourth objective of the study is to explore the impact of study variables on adaptation of cloud computing among the undergraduates and lecturers of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka. To achieve these objectives, the target population was considered as undergraduates of 373 and lecturers of 160 in Eastern University, Sri Lanka. Data were collected from 231 undergraduates and 127 lecturers by using questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive, correlation and multiple regression analyses. The findings shows that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, cloud computing awareness, perceived risk, self-efficacy, e-skills and adaptation of cloud computing are in high level among the undergraduates. Perceived usefulness, Perceived ease of use, Cloud computing awareness, Computer self-efficacy, E-skills have strong positive relationship and perceived risks has strong negative relationship with adaptation of cloud computing among the undergraduates. Cloud computing awareness, Perceived risk and E-skills are significantly impact on adaptation of cloud computing among the undergraduates of Eastern University, Sri Lanka. On the other hand, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, cloud computing awareness, self-efficacy are in high level and e-skills, perceived risk and adaptation of cloud computing is in moderate level among the lecturers. There is a medium positive relationship between perceived ease of use, cloud computing awareness, computer self-efficacy and weak positive relationship between perceived usefulness, perceived risk and also there is an insignificant relationship of E-skills. Cloud computing awareness and Perceived ease of use are significantly impact on adaptation of cloud computing among the lecturers of Eastern University, Sri Lanka.
