Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of transformational leadership on work performance
among employees in banks in the Batticaloa district of Sri Lanka. The banking sector
plays a crucial role in the country's economic development, but l-aces challenges such
as intense competition, technological disruptions, and evolving customer expectations.
In this dynamic environment, effective leadership is essential to motivate employees
and drive high performance.
Transformational leadership theory suggests that leaders who articulate a compelling
vision, act as role models, intellectually stimulate followers, and provide individualized
consideration can inspire extraordinary performance from their subordinates. While
previous research has linked transformational leadership to outcomes like employee
commitment and satisfaction in Sri Lankan banks, no studies have specifically
examined its impact on task and contextual performance dimensions of work
performance.
this quantitative study aims to address this gap by analyzing survey data collected from 200 employees across five major banks in batticaloa district. the independent variable of transformational leadership is measured through four dimensions: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. The dependent variable of work performance encompasses task performance behaviors that contribute directly to the bank's technical operations, as well as contextual performance behaviors that support the broader organizational environment.
Multiple regression analysis will be used to assess the impact of transformational
leadership on work performance and test the hypothesis that transformational
leadership positively influences work performance. The study's finding can provide
insights to help bank leaders cultivate transformational behaviors that optimize
employee performance. From a theoretical perspective, the results will contribute to
understanding the transformational leadership-performance relationship in the unique
context of Sri Lanka's banking industry.
