Abstract:
Present study aims to explore the factor influencing of work alienation among
knowledge workers: a study based on telecommunication sector in Eastern province.
Organization is not possible to achieve to the goal without knowledge workers.
Hence, researcher has become increasingly interested in identifying the factors that
influence the work alienation. And also, knowledge workers are the most important to
the organization. Work alienation influencing factors are task factors, social support
at work, organizational justice factors and organizational structure factors. Therefore,
the researcher identifies the level of these variables, relationship and impact of
independent variable on dependent variable.
So far lack of research has been carried out in Sri Lanka context to investigate the
factor influencing on work alienation among knowledge workers. In doing so, a
survey is administrated among 182 employees . who are working in selected
telecommunication companies [Dialog and Sri Lanka Telecom] in Eastern province.
The collected questionnaire was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science
(SPSS 25.0 Version) through descriptive analysis.
Researcher hypothesized and found that task factors, social support at work,
organizational justice factors, organizational structural factors were which is positive
and which are negative related to work alienation. The study also revealed that task
factors, social support at work, organizational justice factors, organizational structural
factors have significant impact on work alienation. Moreover, this study found that
task factors, social support at work, organizational justice factors, organizational
structural factors have moderate level of work alienation. Therefore, these findings
help the managers to take preventive actions to ensure a committed workforce.
